Fortezza da Basso is a quiet and remote residential neighbourhood bordered by hills to the north and the Mugnone River, a tributary of the Arno, to the south. This stylish area is home to Liceo Ginnasio Dante—one of the oldest and most renowned secondary schools in the city.
The apartment itself is in the heart of a residential area, in the southern part of the district, on the edge of San Lorenzo. A number of delicatessens and convenience stores can be found nearby.
There are several bus stops from which you can catch a city bus across town. Also, only a 7 minute walk from the apartment, the horticultural garden boasts a magnificent greenhouse where you can enjoy an aperitif. Fortezza da Basso and its lush garden is also nearby. A defense station for the Medici government in the 16th century, the fort is now home to a number of international shows, including fashion shows. As for Florence’s historic centre, it is a mere 15–20 minutes away if you are travelling on foot.
The apartment
This spacious, cosy, and bright apartment (95 m²) is on the mezzanine. The tasteful decor features a subtle blend of traditional and modern.
The spacious front entrance (14 m² - south facing) has a window that overlooks the yard and is furnished with a sofa, a coffee table, two chairs, and a dresser.
A hallway (9 m²), which has a coat rack and two wooden coffee tables, runs between the entrance and the rest of the rooms in the apartment.
The living room (31 m² - south facing) is spacious and has two windows overlooking the street. In the living area, there is a double sofa-bed, a bookcase, a TV, and a piano. The dining area is made up of a large table and six chairs.
The kitchen (9 m² - north facing) has a window that overlooks the inner courtyard. It is fully equipped with all the cooking and eating utensils you’ll need, a gas stove, a fridge, an oven, and a wooden table with four chairs.
The master bedroom (17 m² - south facing), which also has a window that overlooks the courtyard, contains a double bed, two bedside tables, a wardrobe, two rocking chairs, a coffee table, and a wooden desk and chair.
