The neighbourhood and surroundings (See on Google Maps)

With its bridges, grandiose churches, and the Grand Canal, the neighbourhood surrounding the city’s train station represents Venice perfectly. Behind the station, old industrial buildings have been transformed into stylish private apartments.

The historic Jewish Ghetto and its magnificent synagogues are only 5 minutes away on foot. Today it is a typical working-class neighbourhood with narrow streets, wells, and bridges between the massive Campo del Ghetto Nuovo that overflows with outdoor cafés and terraces, and the Cannaregio Canal itself where you can catch a vaporetto. Between the train station and the ghetto, the Savorgnan public gardens are a veritable haven of peace—and one of the few spots in Venice where you can take a break surrounded by greenery!
Strada Nova—the throughway that divides Cannaregio and the Rialto district—is home to the San Leonardo market that is bustling from morning to night.

The apartment is situated on a quiet street frequented by locals and the occasional student. You can catch most vaporetti from the station, which is only a 5-minute walk away.

The apartment

This third-floor, elevator-accessible apartment (55 m²) was recently refurbished from top to bottom. It is bright and spacious and features a perfect blend of antique furniture and ultramodern utilities.

The building (a 1930s thermal power plant that was closed down in the early 1980s) was, in 2010, converted into luxury designer apartments that feature recycled materials and above all, conserve the original structure—a requirement in Venice. It is a prime example of biotecture.

The main entrance to the apartment opens directly on a bright main room (23.6 m²) that is divided into several areas.

The living area (southeast facing) features a row of windows along the length of the room that overlook Calle Priuli and the garden belonging to Dei Scalzi church. The space is complete with two sofas, an antique wooden secretary desk, a TV, and a fold-down table that seats four, as well as four designer chairs.

A room divider with lit glass tiles separates the kitchenette from the entrance. The kitchenette comprises an island with an induction cooktop, a designer hut/light, a small oven, a dishwasher, and a sink. A number of cupboards and a large refrigerator complete the space.

There is a small hallway (2.8 m²) that has a large storage closet and leads to the master bedroom and bathroom.

The master bedroom (12 m² - southeast facing) also has a row of horizontal windows that overlook Calle Priuli and the garden belonging to Dei Scalzi church. The room has a double bed (two mattresses pushed together), two bedside tables, designer chairs, and large wardrobes.

The main bathroom (5.8 m²) has no windows and is completely covered in glass mosaics and mirrors. It is fitted with a large shower (80 x 120 cm), a sink, a toilet, a bidet, and a closet that houses the washing machine.

A second bedroom (8.7 m² - southeast facing) sits to the left of the living room. It also has a series of windows that overlook Calle Priuli and the garden belonging to Dei Scalzi church. It has a set of bunk beds and an antique wooden armoire.

The en suite bathroom (2 m²) has no windows. It features mosaics and is fitted with a shower, a sink, and a toilet.
